Nature’s canvas, Lasithi adorns its land with long beaches that stretch to three seas, a short walk from the picturesque villages, and the rich history that reaches as far back as three millennias. Situated on the easternmost region of Crete with a small number of inhabitants, Lasithi is the smallest prefecture, and one of the most visited among tourists; holding the highest income per capita in both Crete and Greece. Lasithi’s fortune stems from tourism, olive oil, and vegetable production, which have become their trademark. The soil is mainly composed of limestone in the PDO Sitia appellation, where ungrafted vines are never affected by phylloxera, from the Liatiko grape variety. Located in Lasithi are two prominent wineries, the Domaine Economou, and The Monastery of Toplou.
